Global Arab Network – The Syrian National Council has announced Homs a Disaster City as Bashar Al-Assad’s regime continues to impose a brutal siege on the city, Global Arab Network reports according to a press statement.

The Syrian National Council Statement:
For the fifth consecutive day, the Syrian regime continues to impose a brutal siege on the city of Homs, aiming to break the will of its people and oppressing them for daring to reject the regime’s authority and for insisting on asking for their legitimate right to freedom and dignity.

The regime’s militias and its security forces are using the assistance of the Shabiha (armed regime-hired civilians) to impose a tight siege on the city of Homs on the eve the regime recognized and accepted the Arab League Initiative. The regime has tightened the siege by preventing the shipping of medical supplies and food into the city of more than two million residents, and preventing families, women, and children from leaving and relocating to safe areas. The regime has also used heavy artillery, rocket launchers, and military aircraft to bomb residential neighborhoods, and has prevented media outlets and representatives of international organizations from seeing what is going on and reporting the facts to the public.

In light of the information confirming that the regime has launched a large scale attack on Homs neighborhoods from several directions on Sunday night / Monday morning (6–7 November), the indiscriminate killing operations carried out by the regime’s militias, and the spread of bodies and inability of their families to bury them or to reach hospitals because of the bombing and sniping operations, the Syrian National Council declares to the Arab and International public:
“Homs a Disaster Area”

The Syrian National Council urgently requests the following from each of the United Nations and its Human Rights Organizations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League, and all International bodies concerned with Human Rights:

1- Using strong language to condemn the Syrian regime’s attack on the city of Homs and telling the regime to stop the attack immediately.

2- Declaring Homs a humanitarian disaster area and imposing international provisions and legislations concerned with providing medical assistance and relief, and mobilizing international organizations to stop the massacre that the regime is carrying out.

3- Providing the required international protection to the civilians, ensuring their relocation to areas far away from the bombing and destruction, and assisting them in finding a safe shelter.

4- Sending Arab and International observers immediately to the city of Homs to oversee observation of the situation on the ground and stopping the regime from continuing committing the brutal massacres.

5- Documenting the crimes that the regime is committing and submitting them to the International Criminal Court in preparation for the trial of those responsible for the crimes.

The Syrian National Council strongly condemns of the brutal practices of the regime in Homs and other Syrian cities. The Council affirms the determination of the Syrian people to conquer tyranny is unrelenting, and the people of Syria will continue their fight against the regime until they achieve victory and attain freedom and dignity without prejudice.
