Saudi Arabia: Balancing and Reducing Carbon in Global Aviation

Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser emphasized the crucial role of the transport and logistics sector in promoting economic and social progress as it connects markets and facilitates the movement of goods and people, contributing significantly to economic growth.
Al-Jasser’s remarks came while participating in the Saudi Green Initiative Forum 2023, held at the Expo City Dubai under the slogan “From Ambition to Action,” which ran parallel to the COP 28 conference.
He said the transportation sector in the Kingdom is the second-largest source of greenhouse-gas emissions, accounting for 19% of total emissions. The minister said that the Saudi Green Initiative, sponsored by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, demonstrates the country’s commitment to sustainability and places it at the core of its activities to achieve the national goal.
Al-Jasser noted that the National Transport and Logistics Strategy has set an ambitious target to reduce emissions to 18% of cumulative per capita by 2030, compared to the base used in 2019. –SPA
