Body of Italian Minister’s Husband Recovered After Month-Long Search
Italian rescue teams confirmed on Tuesday the recovery of the body of Luigi Cavalieri, the husband of the Minister for Family, Birthrate and Equal Opportunities, Eugenia Roccella. The discovery ends a search operation that lasted for thirty-eight days following his disappearance.
The remains were located in Lake Vico, situated in the province of Viterbo, north of Rome. Local authorities had been conducting extensive search efforts across the area since Cavalieri was reported missing more than a month ago. The recovery operation concluded after specialized teams identified the body in the lake’s waters.
Eugenia Roccella has served as Italy’s Minister for Family, Birthrate and Equal Opportunities since October 2022 under the administration of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Following the news of the discovery, official activities have been impacted as the minister and her family begin the process of managing the tragedy.
Italian law enforcement and forensic teams are now conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death to determine the exact cause and the events leading up to the incident. Authorities have not yet released detailed findings from the initial site inspection, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Lake Vico is a volcanic lake known for its natural reserve status, and it is a common site for outdoor activities. The prolonged nature of the disappearance had drawn significant attention, and the conclusion of the search marks a somber end to a period of uncertainty for the family and the local community.
